ABOUT THE ROLE

The Student Advisor at Travis Hill NOLA Schools is responsible for providing individualized academic, emotional, and social support to students. The advisor works closely with students to guide them in their educational journey, helping them navigate challenges, set goals, and develop strategies for success. This role involves serving as a liaison between students, staff, and external agencies, ensuring that students receive the necessary support to succeed academically and socially. The Student Advisor is also responsible for helping students plan for post-secondary education, vocational opportunities, and reintegration upon release. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Academic Support and Guidance: Provide individualized academic advising and support to students, helping them set educational goals, create academic plans, and monitor progress toward meeting those goals. Assist students in understanding their graduation requirements and progression towards graduation. Monitor student performance, identify academic challenges, and provide interventions to staff to support student achievement. Help students navigate high school coursework, graduation requirements, and credit recovery programs.
Career and Postsecondary Planning: Guide students in identifying postsecondary options, including higher education, vocational training, and employment opportunities. Assist students in researching and applying for college, trade schools, or job opportunities, including providing guidance on completing applications and financial aid. Organize workshops or sessions on career exploration, resume writing, etc. Develop and maintain relationships with external organizations and agencies to help facilitate career pathways and transitions for students post-release.
Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with organizations, school staff, and parents/guardians to ensure that students are receiving appropriate support in both academic and social-emotional development. Facilitate and attend student meetings and multidisciplinary team discussions to provide input and ensure that the needs of students are being met across all areas. Serve as the primary point of contact between the organization, school staff, students, parents/guardians, and external agencies, maintaining communication regarding student progress, goals, and concerns.
Record Keeping and Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of the academic progress of students. Document meetings, academic plans, and support strategies in compliance with state and federal regulations and policies for graduation. Ensure records are complete and securely stored and handled in accordance with confidentiality and privacy regulations.
Program Development and Support: Assist in the development, implementation, and facilitation of programs designed to promote and support students in their academic achievement and progress towards graduation. Help coordinate the professional development of said programs. Support efforts to create and maintain an inclusive, supportive environment for all students.
Other Duties as Assigned: Tasks that may not directly align with your job description but are vital and serve to maintain a safe and effective teaching and learning environment for students and staff.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree or Higher

  • Three or more years of teaching experience

  • Ability to Pass an Extensive Background Check

Final total compensation is based on a multitude of factors, including but not limited to skill level, relevant experience to the position, level of education, and cost of labor.

Travis Hill NOLA Schools (THS) provide students residing in secure settings, Orleans Justice Center (OJC), and the Juvenile Justice Intervention Center (JJIC) with a high-quality education rooted in restorative, trauma-informed care. The high-quality education is delivered through a curricular and instructional design that emphasizes relevance, meaning, and engagement and an approach to learning centered around relationships, trust, mutual respect, and accountability. THS also provides significant optional transition support for students when they return home by offering support with school placement and retention, workforce development, and day-to-day case management.

Through this work with families, community partners, and scores of individuals, we work to create an invaluable network of support for pre-adjudicated teens and young adults that will enable them to return to their community as successful, positive, contributing members of society.
