For students in secure settings, release day marks more than just the end of a sentence - it signals the beginning of a new chapter. At Travis Hill NOLA Schools, preparing students for this critical transition is one of the most important aspects of our work. We believe that success after release is rooted in preparation, support, and belief in one’s future.
Our transition program begins well before a student’s release date. From the moment they enroll, we work with them to set personal, academic, and professional goals, Through individualized guidance, students build plans for what comes next - continuing education, workforce or reconnecting with their communities in a positive way.
This year we are embarking on a career readiness pathway where students are engaged in job exploration, learning workplace etiquette, creating resumes, and preparing for interviews. We are looking to partner with workforce agencies and local employers to provide opportunities and certifications in a variety of areas for our students.
Equally important is our focus on reentry skills: understanding finances, accessing healthcare, and developing personal support networks. These real-world lessons help ensure that students leave not just with a diploma, but with the tools to navigate life responsibility and confidently.
A recent graduate shared, “They didn’t just teach me in class. They helped me figure out who I want to be and how to get there.”
By equipping our students with the practical tools and emotional resilience they need, we aim to ensure that their next step is forward, not backward. Preparing for life after release is more than a program; it’s a promise that our students deserve every chance to thrive.
